Real World vs Dream World

After revisiting Nietzsche’s “On Truth and Lying in an Extra-Moral Sense,” oppositional binaries regarding the real world and the dream world, knowledge and ignorance, original and imitation, perishing and living, become more evident. The most interesting binary opposition is the opposition of the real world and the dream world. The distinction between man’s dream world and man’s real world becomes blurred by Nietzsche on the grounds that both are essentially fabricated. That is, the deception produced through the creation of knowledge, man’s attempt in understanding the real world in terms of human relationships, is just as illusionary and deceptive as his dream world is. The real world and dream world are both shaped in terms and arbitrary ideas that humans themselves have created, “moreover, at night, for a whole life long mans lets himself be lied to in dreams.” Likewise in the real world, man continues to scrutinize and create concepts applied in life, eternally ignoring the delusion of the metamorphosis of the world into man. This binary opposition is important in that it demonstrates how Nietzshe continues to derride man's understanding of the world, essentially implying ignorance in both the dream sphere and the real world sphere.
