Rational Man vs. Intuitive Man
" There are ages in which the rational man and the intuitive man stand side by side, one in fear of intuition, the other with mockery for abstraction..." Nietzsche constructs many binaries in his work, one of which is the binary of the rational man vs. the intuitive man. " Man, however, has an unconquerable tendency to let himself be deceived..." meaning, although man might not want to admit it, he is still a composition of both the rational and the intuitive. Both types of man have a desire to "master life," but do not realize that in order to do so, he must come to terms with both his rational and intuitive side. The importance of the binary of the rational man vs. the intuitive man is first, that is connects back to Nietzsche's argument of man being easily deceived by the "truths" of this world and second, that man must not be misguided by these "truths," concepts and abstractions, and believe that being either rational or intuitive is the way to master life. Instead, man must experience things - life - for himself, using both his rational and intuitive side as the guide, and maybe then he will be able to find this own metaphors for mastering life.
